Safe at Home... and we’re not talking baseball

After many prayers, letters, and care packages (some from you, our guests and newfound friends over this past season... thank you) we are pleased to announce that Spc. Walter Loope II has returned safely home from Iraq. The good news came on Dona’s birthday in January, so needless to say she didn’t mind reaching the “Purple Hat” stage of life. As you can see from the picture, Wally’s two boys (Sean and Nathaniel) were very excited to have Daddy home!

Wally is back in Virginia getting ready for Radiology school (again... after two deployments have interrupted previous attempts), working as a film editor, and spending time with the family.

He, as well as his fellow soldiers, felt they did an important job liberating the Iraqi people from the “worst WMD there is, Saddam himself.” From this trooper’s perspective, he saw first-hand the killing fields and didn’t meet one person that could not show a wound or tell a story of torture or death of a close family member. Our soldier’s hearts, and lives, were well given to save these people from bondage and tyranny. He often said ‘The people back home are not getting the whole story. These people are truly grateful and love Bush and the U.S.A. for saving them. They knew we were their best hope for freedom.”

The stories, film, and pictures Wally showed us were sobering to say the least. War is never pretty, and the cost of every life precious. (Freedom is never free.) If called, he is ready to serve again. “The U.S. will always be home, but my heart has fallen in love with the Iraqi people.”

Thank you, Lord, for protecting Wally and for bringing him and our nation’s other sons and daughters safely home. We remember those who still serve and are grateful for their sacrifices.

Thank you also, the many guests of the Inn, for your thoughts, prayers and letters to our son. We are equally grateful.

Well, that’s all for now...
